My name is A'liya Spinner. Here's a picture of me with a giraffe.

I am a non-binary (she/him) researcher, writer, and incoming graduate student. My fiction covers a range of topics, especially mythology, "creatures", and otherness— some have even been adapted for radio and short film! My nonfiction is divided between my recurring "FUTURES" series for The Starset Society and narrative essays from my life and research.

Professionally, I work as a lab tech in the University of Michigan entomology department; I even went quasi-viral for my scientific illustrations of our specimens! I recently graduated with my Bachelor's in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and conducted my original research in poison dart frogs. Read (and watch!) more about my work with melanin, color, and frogs in my "Research" tab.

I am consistently available and very hopeful for anthology, project, or article invitations. If you read something of mine that you liked, want me to contribute to your project, or just want to chat, contact me at ajhspinner@gmail.com.
